1: Read/watch this week's assigned materials.

2: Write and submit on Brightspace ONE of the following: 1) pretending you are Simeon Booker, write a one-paragraph pitch for "To Be a 'Negro' Newsman Reporting on the Emmett Till Murder Trial"; 2) pretending that you are Lynell Hancock, write a one-paragraph pitch about the news media's role in wrongly convicting Korey Wise, Antron McCray, Raymond Santana, Kevin Richardson, and Yusef Salaam in the Central Park jogger case (note: don't just write about the case; write about the news media's role in it); 3) pretending you are a Pro Publica reporter, write a one-paragraph pitch for “In a Notoriously Polluted Area...”

3: On the Pro Publica map, pick any community that shows the highest level of air pollutants. Find that community on Google Earth, then do the following:

Locate the largest industrial plant in the community.
Using the measure tool, calculate how many square acres the plant covers.
Now calculate how far the nearest home is from that plant.
Now calculate how far the nearest school is from that plant.
Submit a screenshot of each measurement on Brightspace. (You do not have to write anything for this exercise; just submit screenshots of your findings.)
