Apprenticeships

Team reporting in the field

ISP apprentices spend six weeks working remotely on ISP projects. Collaborating as a team under the guidance of ISP advisers, they conduct research, interview experts, and discuss their findings in story meetings. Apprentices also have the option to spend a week with veteran reporters and a camera crew in the field.

This year, our apprentices are working on "Broken Medicine," a look at how AI technology has amplified longstanding disparities based on wealth, race, and sex in the US healthcare system. We're also working on "Reporting in B+W," a study of how reporters with different cultural, racial, regional, or political backgrounds have contributed to, or critiqued, the official storyline.
